SMILES BETTER, SMILES FRESHER Primary School Competition!
The Local Food Alliance are running a competition aimed at Kent Primary schools to win a free supply of UK apples for a term.

It’s all part of the LFA’s community drive towards helping younger people understand where their food comes from, to encourage healthy eating and raising awareness of how important food and farming is in Kent.
The Local Food Alliances’ strap line is ‘Miles better…miles fresher’ stressing the importance and quality of local food. The theme for this competition is ‘Smiles better…smiles fresher’ and the children of Kent have to draw a picture that best describes that theme.
From all the entries returned the finalists will be displayed on the LFA’s stand at the National Fruit Show held at Detling showground on the 17th & 18th October.
This annual show displays the best of Kentish & UK fruits, visitors to the stand will vote on the best picture and the winning school will be announced at the show.
Rob Weaver Business Development Manager for the LFA said ‘This competition is a great opportunity for schools in Kent, it helps to raise awareness of local foods and healthy eating, the winning school will also have a chance to visit the orchard and the pack house to see how an apple gets from the tree to their lunchbox!’
Local grower Andrew Boxall added “It’s great to get children interested in food production as it is such an important part of the Kent economy, its imperative we all realise where are food comes from”.
