Why Buy Local Food?  MILES BETTER … MILES FRESHER

This is a frequently asked question by concerned consumers. Many consumers feel that this is a marketing ploy to sell local products and produce. Clearly this is not the case. Our consumers in Kent and in Britain play a very large part in maintaining our economy in the Rural and Urban areas. It is worth considering as well that as time goes by a greater proportion of our consumed food comes from abroad. Local food needs to be supported.

  1. By purchasing Local food you are helping the local farmers, growers and food producers to maintain a living standard.
  2. Your purchases help to maintain the countryside. How many farms or farmers have been affected by imported sales in your area? Without you support the farmer, grower or producers business would have to close. In the case of Kent we have already experienced a massive decline in the milk, cherry, apple; hop industries. But support from the local communities demanding Local food is having an effect. Many Supermarkets, large retail outlets, hotels, restaurants and public houses are now recognising your demand for Local food.
  3. Purchasing Local Food is MILES BETTER the distribution vehicles that travel great distances carrying imported food harm the environment – transporting food large distances use a lot of fuel, whether it travels by lorry or plane. Thus increasing dioxide emissions and contributing towards global warming.
  4. You are acquiring MILES FRESHER produce and products when you buy Local. The further food travels, the longer it spends in transit. Resulting in the decline of vitamin and nutritional values.
  5. Today’s world is changing and becoming it has never been so unstable. We should not rely on imported foods. We know that our produce and products are of high quality and that by supporting our Local food supply chain farmers, growers producers will  be able continue supply.
